The country music fraternity gathered en masse in Sydney this week as the nominations were announced for January’s Golden Guitar Awards in Tamworth, NSW, the traditional high-end finale to the city’s annual country music festival. Sara Storer, Travis Collins and the trio of Kevin Bennett, Lyn Bowtell and Felicity Urquhart were among the leading contenders, but there was a healthy collection of newcomers who received nominations for the first time. Chief among them was Melbourne duo the Weeping Willows, which is up for four trophies on the back of its second album, Before Darkness Comes a-Callin’. Congratulations in the debutants corner also to Katie Brianna, the Wilson Pickers, Michael Waugh, Justin Standley and Fanny Lumsden.
