Following his band Jet’s successful return to performing as guests of Bruce Springsteen on his recent Australian jaunt, singer Nic Cester is taking a low-key approach to his impending solo career. Cester, who spends much of his time these days in Como, Italy, is doing a couple of Australian shows next month ahead of the release of his debut solo album later this year. The co-author of Are You Gonna Be My Girl? and other Jet favourites will be joined by his new all-Italian band the Milano Elettrica, which consists of two drummers, bass, guitar, keyboards and a horn section, the last of which is a reflection of the rocker’s lean towards soul music on the new album. He’s playing his native Melbourne’s intimate The Toff in Town on April 19 and 20, while he’ll hold court at the slightly more spacious The Basement in Sydney on April 21.
