Faster This year’s Australian Ballet contemporary triple bill explores a single theme: the excessive, clamorous energy that permeates modern human endeavour. The unifying theme, energy, is glorified dissected and critiqued through three contrasting lenses: competitive sport, systems theory and city life. British choreographer David Bintley’s Faster offers a rambling pageant of Olympic sporting moments, saturated with a vivacious, imitative choreography in which a vast variety of sports are depicted through stylised, mildly humorous appropriations. The work’s only whiff of emotion comes during a melodramatic pas de deux in which themes of injury and recovery are laid on with a trowel. Sydney Opera House, Bennelong Point. Tickets: $52-$238. Bookings: (02) 9318 8200 or online. Opens April 7.
