The Weekend Australian - Review - - Out & About -

In 2009, photographer Bryan Marden fulfilled a lifelong ambition to photograph the people, the land and the life of the Middle East, a place that is steeped in ancient biblical history and racked by the forces of often brutal regimes. The new show, which coincides with missile strikes ordered by Donald Trump on Syria, focuses on the cities Marden photographed: Damascus, Aleppo and Palmyra. Soon after his travels, these cities were turned into bloodied battlegrounds in the ongoing Syrian civil war. Marden’s work captures the peace and innocence that have disappeared into rubble. The Incinerator Gallery, 2 Small Street, Willoughby. Wednesday to Sunday, 5pm.
