It was heart­en­ing to dis­cover this week, un­der a pile of new or re­vamped rock bi­ogra­phies and au­to­bi­ogra­phies that had names such as Blondie, Ste­vie Nicks and Jeff Buck­ley on their cov­ers, a cu­ri­ous tome called From Cra­dle to Stage by a woman called Vir­ginia Han­lon Grohl. That last name should shed some light on what lies within the book’s 224 pages, or at least that it was writ­ten by Foo Fighter ex­traor­di­naire Dave Grohl’s mother, Han­lon Grohl, who after retiring from a 30-year teach­ing ca­reer de­cided to travel the world with her son and Foo Fight­ers.
