A few morsels of gossip emerged this week regarding a couple of the headline acts at this year’s Splendour in the Grass festival, which kicks off at the North Byron Parklands next Friday. Icelandic soundscapers Sigur Ros, who a few weeks back voiced their displeasure over former tennis great Margaret Court’s views on marriage equality, have taken that view a step further ahead of their sold-out Australian shows, including one at Margaret Court Arena on July 27. The band have had a T-shirt designed by English illustrator Andrew Rae in support of marriage equality, to be sold at all their Australian shows and through their website. Proceeds from sales of the shirts will go to the Australian Marriage Equality organisation, which raises awareness of and lobbies on the issue. “We want to add our voice to the call for marriage equality in Australia — right here on Margaret Court Arena itself,” the band said in a statement. “Australia should be a country that celebrates positivity and inclusion, as well as achievement on the sporting field.”
