The Tele­scope The Tele­scope is an absurdist piece in­spired by the forcible re­moval of thou­sands of res­i­dents in China’s Guizhou province to con­struct the world’s largest ra­dio tele­scope. It is the last night be­fore the con­struc­tion of one such tele­scope deep within Sydney’s sub­ur­bia and the Lip­man fam­ily’s home of 35 years faces de­mo­li­tion. Lenny as­sumes her par­ents will use the gov­ern­ment’s com­pen­sa­tion pay­ment for pur­chas­ing a new house, but they have some­what dif­fer­ent ideas. Par­si­fal Renowned tenor Jonas Kauf­mann re­turns to the Sydney Opera House to take on the chal­leng­ing ti­tle role in this Opera Aus­tralia con­cert per­for­mance of Par­si­fal, also fea­tur­ing the Opera Aus­tralia Or­ches­tra un­der the ba­ton of con­duc­tor Pin­chas Steinberg. This tran­scen­dent mu­si­cal jour­ney is drawn from the Arthurian leg­ends of holy relics, en­chanted maid­ens and faith­ful knights. Sung in Ger­man with English sur­titles.
