Now showing

The Weekend Australian - Review - - Out & About - David Stratton

Gifted (M) Primarily a showcase for a talented child actress, McKenna Grace, Gifted poses questions as to how an exceptional child should be raised and educated and still enjoy a normal childhood. The film, directed by Marc Webb, who first came to attention with (500) Days of Summer, develops into a custody court case in which the little girl’s kindly, laid-back uncle Frank (Chris Evans), who has raised her, finds himself opposed to his own mother (Lindsay Duncan), a cold, ambitious Englishwoman. It’s all a bit contrived, but the central performance alone makes it worth seeing. It’s good to see Webb back working on more intimate material, even though Gifted isn’t entirely satisfactory. 47 Meters Down
