ALU Bali’s Lewis Norman is involved with the management of the recently opened Sesari Bali, a cluster of 16 seriously smart villas, also in Seminyak.

The one and two-bedroom residences, set off a central walkway, have more of a hotel feel than Alu Bali, with marble floors and en suites, four-poster beds, cable television and contemporary kitchenettes (free broadband is available in the lobby). Each villa features a private walled courtyard with small swimming pool.

Decorated with contemporary Chinese flourishes and primarily designed to appeal to the Asian market, Sesari is nevertheless perfect for Australian visitors and great value, with rates from $US75 ($90) a person a night, twin-share and combining all the benefits of a serviced apartment with the privacy of a villa. Breakfast is prepared in your kitchenette, and massage and beauty treatments are available on request. Christine McCabe
