2007 Mistletoe Home Vineyard Hunter Valley Semillon THIS 2007 semillon (94 points, $17) should melt even the hardest hearts of those who think semillon is an aberration. It comes from a lowcropping vineyard and is made from virtually free-run juice. It is marvellously fragrant, with pronounced herb, grass and lanolin aromas. The palate is long and vibrant, the finish perfectly balanced, with just a hint of residual sugar. The result is rather like fresh lemon juice with just enough sugar added to stop the mouth from puckering, making the flavour more intense. Its point of intersection with Luxembourg is its naturally low alcohol of little more than 10 per cent; the point of departure is the yield of about 30 hectolitres a hectare. Only 300 cases made; available through the cellar door, phone (02) 4998 7770, www.mistletoewines.com. James Halliday
