Unionism fades

THE union is becoming scarcer at the workplace. A Talent2 survey of 2000 people notes that about 58 per cent of the respondents do not have a union representative in their workplace.

‘‘ The public service sector seems fairly well-represented by the union movement, with 81.2 per cent of respondents saying they have a union in their workplace,’’ says Craig Sneesby of Talent2. ‘‘ About 50 per cent of those who work in the construction industry have a union in their workplace, yet only 4.7 per cent are actually members.’’
