I tend to shop where I’m working. The best jeans selection is at Villains in San Francisco. Ferner Jacobsen in Oslo is great for Scandinavian designers, and there are fabulous bargains at its winter sale at the end of January. Etro in Berlin has the best fabrics and most spectacular coats. For suits, I love Dolce & Gabbana, which I find at Mientus in Berlin (also always good to wait for the sales). For shoes, Budapester Schuhe at Kurfuerstendamm stocks great Italian designers. www.vil; www.fernerjacob;; www.mien; www.bu FOOD AND DELIS Manufaktum in Berlin has fantastic oldfashioned household items and a great food store with organic specialties such as a divine Italian chocolate hazelnut spread (at the price of beluga caviar). My favourite supermarket is Whole Foods in Houston, which is heaven for those who like to cook and eat with no guilt. I believe in mostly organic fresh produce, Lipscombe Larder in Sandy Bay, Tasmania, is the best deli: what would I do without it?ufak; SEBASTIAN LangLessing has been chief conductor and artistic director of the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra since 2004 and has performed with international orchestras in Europe and Asia and the symphony orchestras of Western Australia and Adelaide. A recording of Lang-Lessing conducting the TSO with Australian opera singer Sara Macliver has been released by ABC Classics. www.lang-less; STILWERK, GERMANY A great mall for interiors is Stilwerk at Kantstrasse 17 in Berlin (also in Hamburg, Dusseldorf and Stuttgart). Here you can find designers such as Kartell for great accessories, Rudolf Benz for fantastic sofas, or kitchen accessories by Alessi. www.stilw QUALITY CLOTHING AND SHOES www.wholefoodsmar; www.lipscombe DIPLOMAT, STOCKHOLM; GRAND HOTEL, OSLO; HILTON, AUCKLAND I enjoy staying at the Diplomat in Stockholm, which has great views and is old fashioned and charming. Oslo’s Grand Hotel is also a favourite because I love the idea of having my breakfast at Ibsen’s favourite table. The Hilton in Auckland has fantastic contemporary design. www.diplomatho;; www.hil TETSUYA’S, SYDNEY; AUBERGE DE L’ILL, ALSACE If I’m not in Sydney to dine at Tetsuya’s, Auberge de l’Ill in Alsace is the best traditional restaurant in France. www.tet; TASMANIA Come to Tasmania and you’ll know what I’m talking about. The whole island is a sightseeing paradise. There is so much to discover: landscape, light, spectacular colours. www.discovertasma I ALWAYS PACK My laptop is always with me but I never travel without my favourite little pillow for the feeling of sleeping in my own bed.
