Hepatitis C coverage brings media medal
HEALTH editor Adam Cresswell, left, has won Hepatitis Australia’s top journalism award for two stories about hepatitis C.
The stories won the consumer category in the inaugural awards for the Professor Geoff Farrell Medal. The stories were a cover published in WeekendHealth on September 30 last year headlined ‘‘ The Hidden Epidemic’’, and ‘‘ Liver diseases set to wreak havoc’’ published in TheAustralian ’ s news pages on October 3 last year.
Both stories focused on the prevalence of the hepatitis C virus and the challenges faced by people living with hepatitis C. Hepatitis Australia said the award recognised both stories’ accuracy and their balanced reporting of the issues, and had ‘‘ played an important role in raising the awareness and understanding of hepatitis C in the Australian community’’.
