KEEPING beer cool is a serious subject for blokes, especially during scorching Australian summers, so we’ll drink to anything that comes to the rescue. The Princess Beer Tap & Cooler ($249) is the first of a series of electrical gadgets about to be released by Dutch company Princess Household Appliances. It works with a five-litre Heineken draught keg and guarantees chilled beer on tap every time. The cooler runs on 240-volt or 12-volt power and stays chilled for at least 10 hours after it has been unplugged. It’s portable, easy to clean and can be connected to a car’s cigarette lighter, so it can be taken into the wilds for fishing, camping and boating trips.

It will also chill bottles of wine or cans of soft drink. Available from Harvey Norman and Myer stores. www.princess.nl.
