2006 Barringwood Park Mill Block Pinot Noir The 2006 Barringwood Park Mill Block ($33, 95 points) has clear and pure cherry fruit, as befits its brilliant clarity of colour. It has echoes of the ’ 03, firm and fresh, with particularly finegrained tannins and none of the slightly green acidity that some of the ’ 06 Tasmanian pinots seem to be showing early in their life. In the context of a vertical tasting at the restaurant, it is less opulent than some of its predecessors but certainly no less impressive. The cellar door, at 60 Gillams Rd, Lower Barrington, is open daily, January to February, from 10am to 5pm; for the rest of the year, Wednesday to Sunday and public holidays. The wines are also available by mail order; (03) 6492 3142; www.barringwoodpark.com.au. James Halliday
