QUEEN Victoria, on its maiden visit, and QE2, on its farewell voyage, will meet in Sydney Harbour on Sunday, February 24 at about 6.30pm, sailing either side of Fort Denison.

It will be exactly 30 years since the first of QE2’s 24 visits to Sydney and the sister ships will greet each other with a booming ‘‘ whistle salute’’.

Queen Victoria will sail through the heads the previous day at about 5.30am and will berth at the International Shipping Terminal.

There are no fireworks planned; a year ago, the meeting in Sydney Harbour of QM2 and QE2 and the fireworks gala caused traffic chaos around the foreshores.
