SPOILS ALE AND ARTY
IT’S a big beer, 8.8 per cent alcohol, but a tiny batch (just 400 cases). Grand Cru is the first seasonal beer from Murray’s Craft Brewing, based at the Pub With No Beer at Taylors Arm (population 50) on the northern coast of NSW. It’s described as a ‘‘ sophisticated, out-there beer’’, a hybrid of the Belgian trippel and golden strong ale styles. ‘‘ Hints of banana and bubblegum,’’ according to the brewer. The autumn special is in 330ml bottles, making it more accessible to the curious beer drinker. If you need any more encouragement, it struck gold at this year’s Sydney Royal Beer Competition.
