Gabbiano 2005 Bellezza and Alleanza GABBIANO produces two Super Tuscans, Bellezza (sangiovese) and Alleanza (75 per cent merlot, 20 per cent sangiovese and 5 per cent cabernet sauvignon). I fully expected to enjoy the Bellezza more but the opposite was the case. The 2005 Bellezza ($54.99) is a full-bodied, powerful, muscular wine but it needs time. The 2005 Alleanza (94 points, $54.99) is medium-bodied with lovely mouth-feel and texture, thanks to silky tannins supporting the black cherry fruit of the palate. The French oak is evident but in balance with the almost floral fruit aromas. These two and the Chianti Riserva will be sold only through restaurants. James Halliday
