2006 Collector shirazes THE 2006 Collector Reserve Shiraz ($46.95) received 95 points in my2009 WineCompanion but in the blind tasting on this occasion I gave it 96 points. It is a truly wonderful wine, highly aromatic, the glorious palate with waves of dark fruits and spices supported by velvet tannins. The 2006 Collector Marked Tree Shiraz (91 points, $26.95) follows in the footsteps of the 2005, which was awarded wine of the year at the 2007 NSW Wine Awards. So who makes these wines? Alex McKay, a former Kamberra winemaker who left when Kamberra was sold by Hardys, and who is a consultant and contract winemaker in the Canberra district while developing his Collector Wines business.
