The British Colonial Hilton, Nassau, Bahamas: Sean Connery as Bond zipped about the Caribbean in Thunderball (1965) and NeverSayNeverAgain (1983). (The hotel has created a 007 suite filled with Bond paraphernalia.)

Lounge probably wouldn’t put Timberline Lodge on her must-stay list; she is still having nightmares about the goings-on at hotels in BartonFink and the John Cusack horror flick 1408 . Helltels, both.

FIND of the week: Leading Hotels of The World has released its 2009 directory; there are 19 new members in the main category and an additional 20 under the Leading Small Hotels of the World branding.

LOUNGE loves: Alexander McCall Smith’s lady detective Precious Ramotswe in TeaTimeforthe TraditionallyBuilt (Little, Brown; $34.99). It’s the 10th in the series and Lounge feels all is right with the world when bush tea-drinking Ramotswe is on the case.

LOUNGE loathes: Spa menus that promise mesmerising treatments; if Lounge wants to fall asleep and speak Swahili, she’ll see a hypnotherapist.
