Minister for Employment and Workplace Relations Julia Gillard has agreed to recommend a separate award for the food industry, following a campaign by Restaurant & Catering Australia to have members removed from a general hotels award under which crippling overtime rates threatened to send thousands of restaurants and caterers to the wall.
