BLOW-OUT

The Weekend Australian - Travel - - Destination Australia - MICHELLE ROWE SUSAN KUROSAWA

A WEEKEND at Bells at Killcare on the NSWcentral coast is the perfect antidote to stressful city life. Ensconced with a good novel on my superplump bed and warmed by a wood fire, I wonder whether life can get much better than this. Hours later I find out. Dinner at Manfredi at Bells, just steps from my beach-chic villa, is papardelle with wild hare ragu; roast suckling pig with brussels sprouts and lonza, mustard fruit and sage sauce, then warm lemon sponge with clotted cream and candied lemon. Bells, I decide, is the height of good taste in every possible respect. More: bellsatkillcare.com.au. ARMCHAIR TRAVELLER Downton Abbey: By now you will be addicted to the best costume drama to come out of Britain for years, but it’s not too late to tune in and catch up with the upstairs-downstairs goingson and Maggie Smith’s fabulous sneers; if headed to Hampshire, pop into Highclere Castle, where the series was filmed. Sunday, 8.30pm, Seven. Beeny’s Restoration Nightmare: It’s the last episode of this three-parter. Will property dynamo Sarah Beeny ever finish restoring her 32-bedroom Rise Hall in Yorkshire? No spoiler to say yes, as the stately pile is now an exclusive events centre. Thursday, 8.30pm, LifeStyle.
