BLOWN AWAY

The Weekend Australian - Travel - - Destination Australia - SUSAN KUROSAWA

THERE are just 18 coveted NSWNational Parks & Wildlife Service campsites at Putty Beach on the Central Coast; the seaside ground includes picnic tables, gas/electric barbecues and flush toilets but the showers are cold-water and open-air, so only the truly brave would venture in winter. It’s not too early to consider a Christmas break here amid the gum trees and rainbow lorikeets. The surf breaks offshore and swimming is lagoon-like on a calm day, with the big surf action just a walk south along the sand to Killcare Beach with its surf club, cafe and lifeguards.
