FOOD Detective’s baking skills are not so hot: cakes that turn out like pikelets, quiches with fillings memorable only for their absence (usually to be found in a pool at the bottom of the oven). So when Donna Hay claimed her new packet mix cakes, brownies and macarons were foolproof, Detective thought she’d be the best judge of that. Rolling up her sleeves in anticipation of a lengthy tussle with Hay’s new Molten Chocolate Chunk Brownie mix, Detective combined melted butter and a couple of eggs with the pre-mix before baking. Five minutes’ work at most. The result? A perfectly proportioned, rich and moist treat that had Mr Detective gobsmacked at such an unexpected development. Detective plans to make Hay while the sun shines and work her way through the entire range. More: donnahay.com.
