DE­TEC­TIVE has long been ob­sessed with the Haigh’s Malti­choc, a more deca­dent ver­sion of the Mal­teser (which is it­self no slouch in the sweets stakes). But in re­cent months the Malti­choc has been ab­sent from the Ade­laide-based choco­latier’s stores. In­quiries by an in­creas­ingly des­per­ate De­tec­tive have re­sulted in ex­pla­na­tions from staff rang­ing from ‘‘we can no longer get the in­gre­di­ents from the sup­plier’’ to ‘‘we can’t find a cen­tre the chocolate will stick to’’. She hopes they sort out their sup­ply is­sues soon; the per­ma­nent loss of one of her favourite chocky treats doesn’t bear think­ing about.
