DE­TEC­TIVE baulked at the prospect of din­ing in a shop­ping cen­tre when Nino Zoc­cali opened Pen­dolino in Syd­ney’s Strand Ar­cade three years ago. But the Ital­ian restau­rant and cafe quickly be­came one of her favourite din­ing spots, and the pre­cur­sor to a trend, as wit­nessed by the up-mar­ket new West­field shop­ping cen­tre food precinct just across the Pitt Street Mall. Zoc­cali’s sec­ond Strand Ar­cade out­post, the newly opened La Rosa Bar and Pizza, is ev­ery bit as al­lur­ing. De­tec­tive popped in for lunch af­ter a stren­u­ous Satur­day morn­ing’s shop­ping in the CBD and was quickly re­vived by La Rosa’s mixed house-made cured salami and sausages, fol­lowed by a su­perthin-crusted pizza with porcini puree, Por­to­bello mush­rooms, moz­zarella and bechamel. The high­light of the meal, how­ever, was a po­tent dol­lop of nduja — spicy Cal­abrian cured meat puree — spread on still-warm bread. Fab­u­lous. More: laros­abarand­pizza.com.au.
