DETECTIVE baulked at the prospect of dining in a shopping centre when Nino Zoccali opened Pendolino in Sydney’s Strand Arcade three years ago. But the Italian restaurant and cafe quickly became one of her favourite dining spots, and the precursor to a trend, as witnessed by the up-market new Westfield shopping centre food precinct just across the Pitt Street Mall. Zoccali’s second Strand Arcade outpost, the newly opened La Rosa Bar and Pizza, is every bit as alluring. Detective popped in for lunch after a strenuous Saturday morning’s shopping in the CBD and was quickly revived by La Rosa’s mixed house-made cured salami and sausages, followed by a superthin-crusted pizza with porcini puree, Portobello mushrooms, mozzarella and bechamel. The highlight of the meal, however, was a potent dollop of nduja — spicy Calabrian cured meat puree — spread on still-warm bread. Fabulous. More: larosabarand
