PENRITH Whitewater Stadium, at the foot of the Blue Mountains west of Sydney, was the site for canoe and kayak slalom events at the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games, and is the only man-made course of its kind in the southern hemisphere. A half-hour drive from the city, it’s a popular yearround venue for corporate events as well as extreme-action birthday parties and Christmas celebrations. Those keen to test their mettle can try a half-day sampler (three hours of instruction for $77 a person), but the serious adventure starts on an advanced weekend — two days for $280. Jane Wyman is the stoic love interest. Today, 7.30pm, Fox Classics. Eat Pray Love: Hated the selfsatisfied Elizabeth Gilbert book, first watched this Julia Roberts movie on a plane (heck, it was free), and just how dreadful could it be with Javier Bardem smouldering away and Bali looking all lush? Not dreadful but unspeakable. Sunday, 8.30pm, Showtime Premiere.
