Do­mus Aus­tralia, a project of the Catholic Arch­dio­cese of Sydney, is a re­cently opened re­stored 19th-cen­tury prop­erty with 32 en­suite gue­strooms in wings around a cen­tral court­yard and clois­ters. It’s about 15 min­utes on foot from the Span­ish Steps and within easy ac­cess of pub­lic trans­port. Do­mus Aus­tralia is filled with art­work from down un­der (in­clud­ing Tim Stor­rier and James Glee­son) and there’s the prom­ise of a warm wel­come for guests of all na­tion­al­i­ties and reli­gions. A 24-hour concierge desk of­fers an in­for­ma­tion ser­vice for trav­ellers (in­clud­ing non-guests) and there’s an on­site res­tau­rant plus rooftop ter­race open for sum­mer din­ing.
