COULD there be a more convivial lunchtime spot within a few hours’ drive of the Sydney CBD than Bistro Molines? On the Tallavera Grove wine estate at Mount View on the rim of the Hunter Valley, Bistro Molines is run by Robert Molines and his wife, Sally, who made their mark with Roberts at nearby Pokolbin. Their new venture features terrace tables as well as indoor seating in a light and bright Provencal-inspired space with pots of lavender and jugs of white flowers. Across a courtyard is the Tallavera Grove cellar door for tastings of, say, semillon and verdelho or reds such as shiraz and sagrantino. The restaurant is elevated, with deep and lovely views and hearty French food that demands a lingering lunch. A few strides away is the two-bedroom Little Orchard B&B, an old-fashioned cottage ideal for two couples. More: bistromolines.com.au.
