NEXT year, Air Pacific, Fiji’s national airline, will return to its original 1951 name of Fiji Airways and complete a comprehensive rebrand aligned with the delivery of the first of its new A330s in early 2013. A traditional stylised masi symbol, layered with meaning and designed by internationally recognised Fijian artist Makereta Matemosi, is a crucial element of the rebranding and will identify Fiji Airways aircraft and represent the nation’s 333 islands. Masi is a fibrous cloth made from the inner bark of the masi (mulberry) tree and features detailed geometric motifs, or masi kesa, printed from the outer edges of the cloth into the centre. More (including a video of Makereta, pictured centre, describing her creative process): fijiairways.com.
