Granite Gorge One of the Tablelands’ most fascinating attractions is 12km from Mareeba, or about 60km from Cairns. There’s a good swimming hole and a lot of rock wallabies; granitegorge.com.au. Mareeba Tropical Savanna & Wetlands Reserve A community project to protect more than 2020ha of savanna and wetlands an hour from Cairns, combining conservation work with education and nature-based tourism; mareebawetlands.org. The Junction Cafe, Mossman Open Monday to Friday and Saturday morning, it has a funky, ’50s-style interior, serves good coffee and has an interesting menu — try the homemade cakes; 5 Front St, Mossman.
