The Weekend Australian - Travel - - Destination Australia - JOHN LETHLEAN

QANTAS’s latest foray into the web world of international travel is something the airline calls (a little clumsily, I suggest) Select on Q-Eat. But the idea is great, enabling pre-selection of a preferred meal service online, 72 to 24 hours prior to departure. According to Qantas, by pre-ordering their meal, passengers are given access to a wider range of choices. Qantas business-class food is probably something you don’t want to miss, however time zones may affect your appetite. Says Qantas International chief executive Simon Hickey: ‘‘An initial trial of the Select on Q-Eat service on our Los Angeles route was very well received by customers, who liked the broader menu and the ability to choose in advance at what stage in the flight they would like to eat.’’ The service was extended to all Qantas international business-class services in October.
