The Weekend Australian - Travel - - Travel & Indulgence - SUSAN KUROSAWA

THE freshly renovated Cathay Pacific First Class Lounge at The Wing, on level seven just past the immigration counters at Hong Kong international airport, feels as chic as a design-conscious mini five-star hotel, with the bonus of loads of natural light. Working with sustainable materials such as bamboo and eucalyptus, architectural firm Foster + Partners has been in charge of the overhaul, including the introduction of five Cabanas, each the size of a studio pad, with spacious shower, full-sized bath, mood lighting and day bed, plus 12 shower suites. The Haven dining area (now with twice the capacity) features an expanded buffet and a la carte menu with wine pairings (try, say, the nicely spiced laksa-style noodles before an evening flight to Australian ports and go straight to sleep on board) and a new Champagne Bar by the entry offers ‘‘a free flow of champagne selections’’. You don’t need to be booked at the ultra-pointy end of the plane to enjoy the high life in a sink-into Norman Foster-designed leather armchair — the lounge, which is open from 5.30am daily until the last Cathay Pacific departure, is also available to Diamond Marco Polo Club members and Emerald OneWorld members. Cathay Pacific upgraded its Business Class Lounge at The Wing last year. More: cathaypacific.com.
