The Weekend Australian - Travel - - Travel & Indulgence -

Who could resist the prospect of a flight aboard Buffalo Airways? It’s the season-two premiere of this reality show based around said airline, which operates in Canada’s Northwest Territories, flies out of the irresistibly named Yellowknife and Red Deer airports and also has water bombing planes for fighting forest fires. It’s frontier country up there and the pilots, the local characters and the story lines are all larger than life. If you’re a fan of, say, Deadliest Catch, Ice Road Truckers, Ax Men or Bering Sea Gold, then settle back in your cowboy hat and thermals with a Moosehead lager and something involving maple syrup and live vicariously. Tonight, 8.30pm, Nat Geo Adventure

The lavishly bearded and always amiable Si King and Dave Myers are taking off in search of their nation’s finest fare, from stalwarts such as coronation chicken and summer pudding to regional favourites of the ilk of Dundee cake, Scotch broth, Cornish pasties and unpleasant-looking concoctions involving eels. Like all the best destination food series, the Hairy Bikers shows are ersatz travelogues, at least as absorbing as many a documentary. With these two tuckerloving chaps for company, beam me up, please, to Billingsgate Market in east London to get fresh with fish and to the cider-making corners of lovely Somerset. Monday, 5pm, LifeStyle Food
