THE Hil­ton Bris­bane, de­signed 25 years ago by Harry Seidler, is look­ing sleek and stream­lined af­ter a seven-year, $37 mil­lion makeover. The city-cen­tre ho­tel has a new flag­ship restau­rant fea­tur­ing a wine room and dry-aged meat cabi­net; a retrothemed bar; up­graded deluxe and ex­ec­u­tive gue­strooms; and a video wall show­cas­ing elec­tronic art­work. But some things haven’t changed, in­clud­ing three very fa­mil­iar faces in the ho­tel’s hos­pi­tal­ity depart­ment. Be­tween them, food and bev­er­age at­ten­dants Robert Wong, Kitty Fung and Stephen Wil­liams (pic­tured, from left) have clocked up 81 years’ ser­vice with Hil­ton. Fung, who works in the ho­tel’s new sixth-floor Vin­taged Bar + Grill, is cel­e­brat­ing her 23rd year with the prop­erty, while break­fast at­ten­dant Wil­liams proudly sports a badge mark­ing 25 years. Wong is the old­est hand. He has clocked up 33 years with the Hil­ton group, start­ing at Syd­ney Hil­ton in 1980 be­fore trans­fer­ring to its Bris­bane sis­ter prop­erty’s hos­pi­tal­ity depart­ment in 1998.
