HOME AND AWAY
THE Hilton Brisbane, designed 25 years ago by Harry Seidler, is looking sleek and streamlined after a seven-year, $37 million makeover. The city-centre hotel has a new flagship restaurant featuring a wine room and dry-aged meat cabinet; a retrothemed bar; upgraded deluxe and executive guestrooms; and a video wall showcasing electronic artwork. But some things haven’t changed, including three very familiar faces in the hotel’s hospitality department. Between them, food and beverage attendants Robert Wong, Kitty Fung and Stephen Williams (pictured, from left) have clocked up 81 years’ service with Hilton. Fung, who works in the hotel’s new sixth-floor Vintaged Bar + Grill, is celebrating her 23rd year with the property, while breakfast attendant Williams proudly sports a badge marking 25 years. Wong is the oldest hand. He has clocked up 33 years with the Hilton group, starting at Sydney Hilton in 1980 before transferring to its Brisbane sister property’s hospitality department in 1998.
