FLAMBOYANT designer Marcel Wanders has transformed the former public library on Prince’s Canal into a sort of high-camp love letter to his adopted city. The sedate brick facade of Hotel Andaz Amsterdam Prinsengracht conceals a property with huge personality; you’ll wish you had a curator on hand to decode all the motifs and concepts. Interiors are a mash-up of Delft patterning, tapestries, gable stones, St Andrew’s crosses, tulips and the colour orange. While the 122 guestrooms rate off the charts for fantasy and fun, comfort and practicality have not been neglected — half-mirrored showers blend cleansing with canal views; toilets wallpapered with quirky city facts turn toot time into a self- enrichment session. There is art everywhere ( 40 video installations play on constant loop).
