FIN­LAND’S na­tional car­rier, Fin­nair, is fly­ing the flag for the coun­try’s cre­ative he­roes, with dis­tinc­tive in­flight meal set­tings and tex­tiles from lead­ing de­sign com­pany Marimekko. Crock­ery and linens in busi­ness class are in tones of blue, green and grey to re­flect the Fin­nish lakes and land­scapes, com­ple­mented with dis­tinc­tive Aino glass­ware from Al­var Aalto by Iit­tala (in econ­omy class, pa­per cups, nap­kins, fleeces and pil­lows sport the same dis­tinc­tive pat­terns). Fur­ther strength­en­ing the lo­cal ties, the air­line has signed two of Fin­land’s best chefs to cre­ate sig­na­ture menus fea­tur­ing the best of the na­tion’s pro­duce for busi­ness-class pas­sen­gers. Ex­pect Nordic hand-peeled shrimps and avocado puree or pan-fried rein­deer fil­let in game sauce, mush­room ravi­oli and fried ceps from Pekka Ter­ava, whose Helsinki restau­rant Olo has a Miche­lin star, and Asian-in­spired cre­ations — ra­men noo­dles and spicy salmon or caramel pork and green mango salad — from Tomi Bjorck.
