FINLAND’S national carrier, Finnair, is flying the flag for the country’s creative heroes, with distinctive inflight meal settings and textiles from leading design company Marimekko. Crockery and linens in business class are in tones of blue, green and grey to reflect the Finnish lakes and landscapes, complemented with distinctive Aino glassware from Alvar Aalto by Iittala (in economy class, paper cups, napkins, fleeces and pillows sport the same distinctive patterns). Further strengthening the local ties, the airline has signed two of Finland’s best chefs to create signature menus featuring the best of the nation’s produce for business-class passengers. Expect Nordic hand-peeled shrimps and avocado puree or pan-fried reindeer fillet in game sauce, mushroom ravioli and fried ceps from Pekka Terava, whose Helsinki restaurant Olo has a Michelin star, and Asian-inspired creations — ramen noodles and spicy salmon or caramel pork and green mango salad — from Tomi Bjorck.
