AUS­TRALIA’S farm­ers have been do­ing it tough, with un­re­lent­ing heat and bush­fires wreaking havoc on crops in re­cent weeks. In Vic­to­ria’s Mace­don Ranges, many have ex­pe­ri­enced sig­nif­i­cant losses, with par­tic­u­lar dam­age caused to del­i­cate edi­bles such as sal­ads and baby veg­eta­bles be­ing grown by or­ganic producers. Dayles­ford’s Lake House restau­rant, ho­tel and spa is help­ing fly the flag for strug­gling sup­pli­ers with its an­nual Re­gional Producers Day on Sun­day, Fe­bru­ary 9. A mar­ket fea­tur­ing goods from the likes of Holy Goat Sut­ton Grange, Dayles­ford Or­gan­ics, Is­tra Small­go­ods, Red­beard Bak­ery and Fern­leigh Farms will run from 10.30am un­til 4pm, with wine tast­ings, cook­ing demos and sus­te­nance in the form of gourmet piz­zas, bar­be­cue favourites and sweet treats through­out the day. A new Break­fast with the Producers event, 9am-10.30am, will fea­ture a coun­try-style morn­ing spread and talks on or­gan­ics, bio­dy­nam­ics and rare breeds by Lake House’s Alla Wolf-Tasker and her favourite sup­pli­ers ($25 a per­son; ad­vance book­ing es­sen­tial).
