AUSTRALIA’S farmers have been doing it tough, with unrelenting heat and bushfires wreaking havoc on crops in recent weeks. In Victoria’s Macedon Ranges, many have experienced significant losses, with particular damage caused to delicate edibles such as salads and baby vegetables being grown by organic producers. Daylesford’s Lake House restaurant, hotel and spa is helping fly the flag for struggling suppliers with its annual Regional Producers Day on Sunday, February 9. A market featuring goods from the likes of Holy Goat Sutton Grange, Daylesford Organics, Istra Smallgoods, Redbeard Bakery and Fernleigh Farms will run from 10.30am until 4pm, with wine tastings, cooking demos and sustenance in the form of gourmet pizzas, barbecue favourites and sweet treats throughout the day. A new Breakfast with the Producers event, 9am-10.30am, will feature a country-style morning spread and talks on organics, biodynamics and rare breeds by Lake House’s Alla Wolf-Tasker and her favourite suppliers ($25 a person; advance booking essential). General entry to the event is $5. More: lakehouse.com.au.
