Way out west in Perth the lounging is easy thanks to Virgin Australia’s super-smart passenger facility in the airline’s stylish T1 Domestic Terminal, which opened a year ago. The open-plan lounge is a smidge over 1700sq m, and very user-friendly, kitted out in Virgin’s trademark mauve and soft grey. Designed by Tim Greer of Tonkin Zulaikha Greer Architects, the lounge is flooded with natural light and seats up to 400 in comfy tub chairs arranged into private zones. Bar stools set at high tables are the perfect spot to catch up on emails while tucking into a bowl of minestrone or a DIY toastie. The smart espresso and wine bar is staffed by a friendly barista; there are marshmallows for your hot chocolate while boiling water for the Madame Flavour teas is dispensed from countertop taps (very convenient once you get the hang of it). A fridge stocked with small bottles of sparkling mineral water is a nice touch. The blacktiled bathrooms are very chic, with full-size dispensers of sweet-smelling Grown Alchemist hand cream alongside the hand-dryer. There’s free Wi-Fi and meeting rooms are available for business on the fly. More: virginaustralia.com.
