HOME & AWAY
Melbourne’s Crown Promenade pulls off a neat trick. The seven-year-old 4.5 star hotel with 465 rooms over 23 floors is located in the heart of Melbourne’s Southbank, a 200m walk from the Crown Casino complex and its luxury Crown Towers. But to enter its light-filled lobby, with floor-to-ceiling windows, is to feel removed from the frenetic pace of the entertainment, dining and gambling behemoth across the road. Guestrooms, in relaxed tones of muted greys and offwhites, are less ostentatious than neighbouring accommodation at Crown Towers and Crown Metropol. Contemporary Australian art graces the walls in standard rooms and studio suites, and there’s an ottoman window seat to enjoy views of the Yarra River, Port Phillip Bay and, of course, the Crown complex. The wellness centre includes a 25m infinity pool and a gym. Mesh restaurant offers a bistro menu, as well as breakfast buffet and, on weekends, there’s a seafood smorgasbord lunch. A walkway links the sister properties so you could explore the Crown precinct without really setting foot in Melbourne. More: crownhotels.com.au.
