The Ritz-Carl­ton, Langkawi, has opened on a shel­tered beach­front on the Malaysian is­land with a mix of 114 gue­strooms, suites and over­wa­ter vil­las; the strik­ing day spa fea­tures over­wa­ter, pod-like pavil­ions re­sem­bling tra­di­tional fish traps • Asilia has un­veiled Ja­bali Ridge sa­fari camp in south­ern Tan­za­nia, fea­tur­ing eight stylish rooms with shut­tered walls open­ing onto long views over a for­est of baobab trees; there’s an in­fin­ity pool, spa and li­brary, and the chance to ex­plore the coun­try’s largest na­tional park in splen­did iso­la­tion (other sa­fari ve­hi­cles are a rare sight) • The Edge “su­per vil­las” prop­erty, perched clifftop at Bali’s Uluwatu, is open­ing a wing fea­tur­ing a club with glass-bot­tomed in­fin­ity pool, mod­ern Indonesian res­tau­rant, ten­nis court and four ad­di­tional vil­las • Part of the HKRI Taikoo Hui mixed-use devel­op­ment in Nan­jing Road (West), the soon to open Sukhothai Shang­hai will in­clude 168 ul­tra-smart gue­strooms, 33 suites, and five din­ing and bar venues, in­clud­ing an out­post of Bangkok’s pop­u­lar Ital­ian res­tau­rant La Scala • Also in China, Man­darin Ori­en­tal Qian­men opens next year in Beijing with a se­ries of court­yard suites in one of the most his­toric parts of the cap­i­tal; the ho­tel will be ranged through the Qian­men East Hu­tong Quar­ter close to Tianan­men Square.
