The five-bedroom, solar-powered concrete house near the Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve has been furnished and designed by local craftspeople with upcycled furniture and handwoven accessories in collaboration with international design team CoLab. Perched on a sea cliff overlooking the Indian Ocean, the pole-mounted eco-chalets at Swell Lodge are designed to provide a sustainable base to explore the surrounding wildlife of Christmas Island, 2600km northwest of Perth.
