AWASI IGUAZU, AR­GENTINA

Trav­ellers ea­ger to ex­pe­ri­ence the Ar­gen­tine jun­gle can now do so en­sconced in pri­vately po­si­tioned vil­las on stilts and de­signed for min­i­mal en­vi­ron­men­tal im­pact, each with a plunge pool and out­door shower. De­sign lovers should take note of this justopened pri­vate jun­gle re­treat, a new De­sign Ho­tels mem­ber set amid emer­ald palms. The five-bed­room, so­lar-powered con­crete house near the Sian Ka’an Bio­sphere Re­serve has been fur­nished and de­signed by lo­cal crafts­peo­ple with up­cy­cled fur­ni­ture and hand­wo­ven ac­ces­sories in col­lab­o­ra­tion with in­ter­na­tional de­sign team CoLab. SWELL LODGE, CHRIST­MAS IS­LAND

Perched on a sea cliff over­look­ing the In­dian Ocean, the pole-mounted eco-chalets at Swell Lodge are de­signed to pro­vide a sus­tain­able base to ex­plore the sur­round­ing wildlife of Christ­mas Is­land, 2600km north­west of Perth. Built amid pan­danus and flow­er­ing scaevola in a na­tional park, the off-grid Swell Lodge will also fea­ture a yoga space and restau­rant and is ex­pected to open by mid-next year.
