Ablett footy fam­ily mourn sis­ter

Mem­bers of one of the coun­try’s most fa­mous AFL fam­i­lies have paid trib­ute to Natasha Ablett af­ter her death.

The sis­ter of Gary Jr had been re­ceiv­ing treat­ment through the Swanston Cen­tre in Gee­long. She is be­lieved to have died yes­ter­day. She was aged in her mid-30s.

The Swanston Cen­tre is a men­tal health in­pa­tient unit.

Alisha Ablett paid trib­ute to her sis­ter on so­cial me­dia. “Natasha — you were the strong­est women I’ve ever known with an ab­so­lute heart of gold! 1982-2017,” she wrote.

Ear­lier this week Gary Ablett re­it­er­ated that fam­ily rea­sons were be­hind his plea to leave Gold Coast and re­turn to play for Gee­long next year.

“A lot of peo­ple are likely to be mak­ing as­sump­tions about why I made this de­ci­sion; how­ever, only a few peo­ple know the rea­sons why,” Ablett wrote. “My sis­ters, my brother, and par­ents all play a huge role in my life, and it’s time that I make my­self more avail­able to them and oth­ers back home.”

De­spite be­ing con­tracted for an­other year, Ablett, 33, re­quested a trade to his pre­vi­ous club Gee­long last month.
