Ablett footy family mourn sister
Members of one of the country’s most famous AFL families have paid tribute to Natasha Ablett after her death.
The sister of Gary Jr had been receiving treatment through the Swanston Centre in Geelong. She is believed to have died yesterday. She was aged in her mid-30s.
The Swanston Centre is a mental health inpatient unit.
Alisha Ablett paid tribute to her sister on social media. “Natasha — you were the strongest women I’ve ever known with an absolute heart of gold! 1982-2017,” she wrote.
Earlier this week Gary Ablett reiterated that family reasons were behind his plea to leave Gold Coast and return to play for Geelong next year.
“A lot of people are likely to be making assumptions about why I made this decision; however, only a few people know the reasons why,” Ablett wrote. “My sisters, my brother, and parents all play a huge role in my life, and it’s time that I make myself more available to them and others back home.”
Despite being contracted for another year, Ablett, 33, requested a trade to his previous club Geelong last month.
