Red-faced top cop caught by speed camera

The Weekend Australian - - THE NATION - ANDREW BURRELL

Western Australia’s top cop, Chris Dawson, says “no one is immune” from the law after admitting he was caught speeding two weeks ago.

The police commissioner said yesterday he was photographed by a speed camera doing 59km/h in a 50km/h zone in East Perth on September 28 while driving his private car to the National Police Remembrance Day Service at the Police Academy at Joondalup, in Perth’s north.

The offence comes as the state government rolls out a $550,000 advertising campaign in which serving police officers are shown in the back seats of speeding vehicles as a reminder that the chances of being caught are even greater.

Mr Dawson said he paid the $100 fine as soon as he received the infringement.
