While attending the fabulous Eye on Fashion event at Hilton Cairns last week, it quickly become apparent just how exciting 2008 is shaping up to be. At the event was a gamut of people from the region and watching them check out Myer’s exciting new range, Hi There by Karen Walker, or stop by the Dior make-up booth for a touch-up made it obvious just how much Cairns really is growing and evolving. Going hand-in-hand with the region’s progress are some really fantastic events lined up for this year.
Eye on Fashion is a new concept which kicked off with a bang. It’s a monthly event involving Hilton Cairns, Myer and, proudly, cairnseye magazine. The purpose of the Eye on Fashion gatherings is to give people a great social night out with a chance to check out some beautiful Myer products and fashions. And the Eye on Fashion events will culminate in the annual Essence, an eye on fashion, in October this year where big-name Australian designers will showcase their collections.
On the subject of big events, Fashions on the Field co-ordinator Amanda Macor and Cairns Jockey Club committee member Jeanine Cooke, the subject of our cover story this week, were chatting at Eye on Fashion about how exciting the Cairns racing calendar was shaping up to be. Where race meets were once held once or twice a year, they are now held regularly with men and women dressed to kill for even the more minor meets. So there are fashion and charity events, race meets and even cairnseye magazine’s first birthday on the horizon.
It’s an exciting year ahead and no one can really complain that there’s nothing to do in this great and growing city.
