New restaurant offers authentic Japanese fare
A NEW offering in Palm Cove, Kushi Yakitori Bar and Japanese Restaurant brings an authentic taste of Japan to the northern beaches.
“People can find Japanese dishes from other places but not yakitori (skewered chicken),” owner Allan Park says.
“We do Japanese traditional skewers cooked on charcoal in the yakitori bar located on the middle of the restaurant. So, people can see from anywhere what we doing.”
Allan says he opened Kushi because even though there are a lot of sushi restaurants in Cairns, other traditional dishes like Yakitori are harder to find.
“I would like to offer real Japanese food, with a Japanese atmosphere to local customers without them going to Japan,” he says.
“Tourists cannot go to the popular reef in Cairns and be in Japan at the same time. So, I would like to give them the chance to enjoy two places at once.”
Kushi invokes the feel of an authentic Japanese restaurant, with all-Japanese decorations, respectful and kind staff, but offers amazing an setting on the Palm Cove waterfront with the ocean just a stone’s throw away.
Allan explains that he would like Cairns locals to learn about the many types of traditional Japanese cuisine, like yakitori.
“Most people don’t know what yakitori is,” he says.
All dishes served at Kushi are made with local ingredients — fish, beef and chicken — adding to the fusion of traditional Japanese recipes and meals with the appeal of staying in the Far North.
“Our aim is to make our customers happy from the start to the end,” Allan says.
Kushi Yakitori Bar and Japanese Restaurant is located on the first floor of 73 Williams Esplanade, Palm Cove. Phone: 4055 3444 for bookings.
