Get to Babinda to­day for a great fam­ily event with the Harvest Fes­ti­val. The day starts with Traders morn­ing and 4KZ live broad­cast, fol­lowed by the Grand Street Pa­rade from 3.30pm. The fun then moves to Bill Wake­ham Park from 4.30pm, where the crowd will wit­ness the crown­ing of Miss Char­ity, Miss Per­son­al­ity and the 2016 Queen. Fire­works kick off at 8.30pm as well as a cane burn. The Bad Boys of Uke will per­form and en­cour­age any­one with ukule­les to bring them along. The event will also feature lots of mar­ket stalls, a vin­tage ma­chin­ery dis­play and much more. Visit babinda­har­vest­fest.org. Also on Satur­day is Il­lu­mi­na­tion, a per­for­mance event blend­ing mu­sic, dance, fire and light shows by Aus­tralia’s best in an out­door rain­for­est set­ting at AJ Hack­ett. Live bands, dance DJs and per­for­ma­ces in­clude Ti­juana Car­tel (above), Uone, aerial silk per­for­mances and much more. This is an 18+ event. Doors open at 7pm. Tick­ets are avail­able at the gate. This chore­ographed dance pro­duc­tion has been cre­ated to sup­port be­yond­blue. The pro­duc­tion is tonight, 7pm, at Cairns Din­ner Theatre. The piece com­prises a se­ries of snap­shots of the jour­ney and re­cov­ery from men­tal ill­ness; it is raw, poignant and ul­ti­mately up­lift­ing. Tick­ets are $10.
