Get your tickets today. Visit tanksartscentre.com This contemporary art exhibition from local collective Knock Knock Contemporary Artists’ Initiative highlights the complex relationship between art, artists and the art of making money. Seven well-known Cairns artists – Raewyn Biggs, Barbara Dover, Louisa EnnisThomas, Vide Freiberg, Julie Poulsen, Rose Rigley and Jennifer Valmadre – have created works responding to this challenging exhibition theme. Angela Meyer brings together European and Eastern traditions in her own colourful and dramatic style. This exhibition is an observation of the historical and the everyday. Angela responds to the paintings of Michelangelo’s Flood, The Fall and The Creation. She playfully appropriates Gericault’s Raft of the Medusa and Da Vinci’s Virgin of the Rocks. Her work also reflects on the paintings of Shi Tao who used gestural lines and forms to express his value of innovation and freedom. Borrowing from historical paintings is a way to understand the world, where within the inanimate picture lives human feeling.
