Hemingway’s Brewery at Port Douglas will host its inaugural Brews, Blues and BBQ event on Saturday, June 10. Along with being a celebration of craft beer, live music and barbecue smoked meats, the day will include a round of the Barbeque’s Galore Australian Barbecue Championships. Comprising paintings, prints and sculpture by senior, mid-career and emerging Torres Strait Islander artists, his collection plots the development of a unique art movement that combines new forms with traditional practice, creation mythology, colonisation, Christianity and the maintenance of Culture. This is a touring exhibition that brings together some of Australia’s leading female contemporary artists who work across screen-based media. Artists include Kate Blackmore, Jacinta Tobin, Mikala Dwyer and Justene Williams, Amala Groom, Deborah Kelly, Joan Ross, Soda Jerk, Angelica Mesiti and Caroline Garcia. Collectively and individually the artists act as historians, archivists and archaeologists – excavating historical materials, digging through records and channelling the past.
