The Weekend Post - Motoring - - CRUISE CONTROL -

THE wild SideWinder doors on the Rezvani Beast Alpha cost an extra $13,000 but are expected to be a popular choice when the American supercar goes into production.

Built in Los Angeles and priced from $125,000, the Rezvani (below) has a 2.5-litre 300kW turbo engine. MORE than 100,000 diesel vehicles, mostly Jeep Grand Cherokees, are being modified in the US after claims by legislators they breach emissions regulations with software reminiscent of that used by Volkswagen on its Dieselgate cars.

FCA Australia will neither confirm nor deny any implications for Jeeps in Australia. FUTURE-proofing the company is costing Toyota more than $10 billion a year in research-and-development bills.

The Japanese maker has boosted its research and development spending on everything from autonomous and electric cars to the factories to build them. THE number “29” cost someone a record $745,000 for the historic black-and-white NSW plate.

The price at the Shannons Autumn Classic auction topped the previous record of $689,000, set two years ago for NSW “2”, with the plate’s history traced back to a 1915 Minerva. HOLDEN’S new Astra sedan and the imminent Subaru XV crossover have both been awarded five stars from the Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP) in the latest round of crash testing.

In handing down the latest scores, the crash safety watchdog took a swipe at Subaru for not offering autonomous emergency braking (AEB) as standard on the base variant and Holden for not making the technology available on any Astra sedan. KIA’S Sorento Si Limited SUV, now comes with $3000 additional value at no extra cost, including 18in machine finish alloy wheels, leather seats, a premium steering wheel with wood-look trim and exclusive Limited badging.
